Dr. Khodabakhsh Hessami Pilehrood is a professional mathematician who got his Bachelor degree in mathematics from Shahid Chamran University, Ahvaz, Iran, and his Master and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from Moscow State University. He began teaching math as early as he was in high school. The last 30 years Dr. Hessami taught different mathematical subjects at different levels. From 2001 to 2012 he served Shahrekord University in Iran as a math professor. While at Shahrekord University, Dr. Hessami taught various undergraduate and graduate mathematical courses, developed curriculum for Master of Science Program in Math, supervised graduate students at the Master's level, and fulfilled a lot of research projects. Dr. Hessami was invited to many leading research institutes around the world including the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientiques (IHES), Bures-sur-Yvette, France, The Max-Planck-Institut fur Mathematik (MPIM), Bonn, Germany, Institute for Fundamental Sciences, Tabriz, Iran, Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM), Tehran, Iran, the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, Toronto, Canada. Besides his research in Number Theory, he was always interested to study different educational systems in different countries. In 2012, when the Hessami family immigrated to Canada, he realized that the level of his children’s math and their classmates’ is very different and math classes became very easy and boring for his kids. He and his wife Dr. Tatiana Hessami Pilehrood began to design their own program for math and science.They made math clubs in an elementary school and a middle school in Halifax to show kids the beauty of math, and they started to teach their three daughters. The results were outstanding. The last 6 years, their children participated in many math contests and always were among the best 5% of participants and mostly in the first rows. So they decided to expand their scientific family, help and prepare more children to become new scientists, so the Pi School was born!
